Volvo Buses received an order from Svealand Trafik for 106 electric buses that will serve the Västerås and Örebro counties. The initial order included 60 units of the Volvo 8900 Electric – the first orders for this model after its introduction, as well as 13 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated. A recent additional order was made for 33 more units of the same model.

Volvo 8900 Electric will be used for regional transport, and it is expected to enter into service in early 2027, while the Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated will be delivered in 2026 and will serve the urban lines in Örebro.

Martin Spiern, Volvo Buses Manager for Sweden, stated that he and his team are especially pleased with the large order for the new intercity electric bus Volvo 8900 Electric, which offers efficient, sustainable, and quiet transport not only in cities but also on suburban roads. For Svealand Trafik, this is not just an order but part of an overall strategy for the electrification of public transport.

Svealand Trafik already operates 17 Volvo electric buses serving the urban lines in Västerås.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Volvo Buses, a company that shares our commitment to quality and innovation in public transport,” said Gert Schaap, Head of the Technology and Innovation Department at Svealand Trafik.

The demand for electric buses for intercity and regional routes in Europe is growing, and the Volvo 8900 Electric is perfectly suited for this type of transport. It is based on Volvo’s electric vehicle platform BZR, which allows for flexible battery configuration and charging according to the customer’s needs.

The chassis production for the Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated and Volvo 8900 Electric will take place at Volvo Buses’ factories in Borås and Uddevalla, Sweden, while the bodies will be produced by MCV – Volvo Buses’ partner in Egypt.

Thomas Nyhlund, Vice President of Volvo Buses for Europe, commented that the order of 106 electric buses from Svealand Trafik proves that the strategic change they made in Europe is the right one. Together with their partners, they continue to develop sustainable transport solutions and adapt their offerings to meet customer needs.
